Top 35 Shows On TV

Postby MadGuy on Sat Nov 07, 2009 1:30 pm

This is just my personal opinion. Only shows that are still in production.

How many of these are YOU watching?

35. Damages
Image
I have never liked this show as much as the average critic.
But it is a great show that I still need to catch up on. Eventually, but it isn't a show that I NEED to see.

34. Being Human
Image
One of the few British shows that I have ever truly liked.
What is taking Season 2 so long?

33. Hung
Image
Still need to catch up on this show, but is it good? Absolutely.
Humor is very awkward, which doesn't appeal to everyone, but it does to me.

32. Family Guy
Image
Haven't watched this one in a while, but it is a great show for when you are bored.

31. Medium
Image
Haven't bothered watching the new Season yet.
Quite frankly, it is a great show but it is time to end it already.

30. The Tudors
Image
Pretty much the guilty-pleasure version of 'Rome'.
Is it worth watching? For sure, if not just for it's sexiness and great outfits.

29. Man Vs. Wild
Image
Gotten a little tired of this one, but Bear Grylls never gets boring.

28. 30 Rock
Image
A little too American, but I certainly understand the hype.
Best comedic cast on tv, for sure.

27. The Simpsons
Image
This show never gets old. 21 Seasons old? Damn.

26. Nurse Jackie
Image
One of the best new shows of the year, Edie Falco blows me away with her great performance.

25. Weeds
Image
The humor on this show is getting worse, whilst the drama is only getting better.
It is being dragged on longer than it should have, but it is still worth watching.

24. Rescue Me
Image
This show is like a roller coaster ride, it has big highs and big lows and little in-betweens.
But the occasional great performances and unique story makes it unforgettable.

23. Nip/Tuck
Image
Pretty much the exact same thing as Rescue Me.
But season six, which will be the series' last, is proving to be as dark and as memorable as the first three seasons so far.

22. South Park
Image
A show that has gotten a bit too old, but is it still entertaining? You betcha.

21. Skins
Image
Too high on the list? Pretty much.
But when the show is good, it is pretty heartbreaking.

20. Survivor
Image
In it's 19th Season, and still going on strong.
The only reality show that I would recommend to anyone.

19. Epitafios
Image
I am probably the only person here that will ever watch this show.
It airs on Latin HBO, which means that it is all in Spanish. Pretty awesome.

18. The Office
Image
Behind on this one, mainly because I do not like it as much as during it's first three seasons.
But it is still one of the best comedies on tv.

17. Entourage
Image
I am not yet caught up with this one, but I have been watching episodes here and there and loving it more the more I watch it.

16. In Treatment
Image
I am still not finished with it's first Season.
Why? I do not know. Honestly, I loved what I saw of it. Excellent show.

15. Lost
Image
The show has changed so much, and I don't think that it's as smart or nearly as touching as it used to be.
It actually feels like just another action-y show instead of a powerful, supernatural drama.
Hopefully Season 6 gives it the right send off.

14. Robot Chicken
Image
One of the best ways to kill time.
It can be hit-or-miss-y, but for the most part, it is pure unconditional entertainment.

13. True Blood
Image
What is not fun about this show? It has sex, gore, supernatural people, and decent writing and performances.
The best guilty pleasure on tv. period.

12. Party Down
Image
Probably overrating this show that almost nobody has ever even heard of.
But I love it. I love the characters, the cast, the GUEST STARS(!!!), the humor. It is one of those shows you just simply love.

11. Bored To Death
Image
If I would ever write a comedy, it would be something like this.
Just extremely dry, and probably lame. It's hilarious and akward, I love it.

10. Friday Night Lights
Image
Season 4 is starting all over again, half the cast is gone and the show is just better than ever.

09. It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia
Image
Currently going through it's worst Season yet, but it could still recover.
The people on this show are horrible low-lives, what's not to love?

08. Modern Family
Image
Still very fresh and new, but already loving this one.
The cast is superb, with the likes of Ed O'Neill and Ty Burrell.
It has two Colombian characters and the dialog is sharp and histerical. One of the best comedies in a long time.

07. The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency
Image
My favorite new show that aired this year.
So far, still has not been renewed or cancelled. Hopefully it does get a second season, because it was a true African gem.

06. Big Love
Image
This show has only been getting better and better.
It has gotten better than I ever though it could get. Gut-wrecking and occasionally hilarious.

05. Flight Of The Choncords
Image
The world needs more Folk, I demand it!
As of now, whether Season 3 will happen is still unsure. HBO wants them back, but the Conchords are not convinced yet.
Here's hoping they do at least one more season.

04. The Venture Bros.
Image
Best. Animated show. Ever. Period.
I love everything about this show. It is epic, freaking histerical, has one of the best voice-acting, excellent set of characters, and a better written and less confusing mythology than Lost.

03. Breaking Bad
Image
Bryan Cranston really carries this show, his performance reminds me of the Deadwood cast, it is that good.
The show is very thrilling without being cheap, you never know what will happen next.

02. Dexter
Image
Season 4 is doing what I didn't think was going to be possible.
It is making me love and fear this show even more. This Season's villain, The Trinity Killer, is almost as freaky as Twin Peak's Bob.
What a great ride this show has been.

01. Mad Men
Image
What can I say about the show that hasn't been said already?
It is a work of art, every single frame is. I can just pause any episode and still be amazed by what I see.
I love that about this show. There is a group of people that will never get what I mean, but if you are into art, you should be able to understand.

I'm sort of watching 8 of them.

I think I'm going to add Breaking Bad and Modern Familly to that list.

Re: Top 35 Shows On TV

The ones that I've seen at least once:

Family Guy: Definitely not my favorite "adult cartoon." Sometimes it comes off as a bit too silly and even immature, the random bits don't always work, and overall, I just think it's overrated by people. However, I do like it despite that. :P

The Simpsons: I've always loved it, and always will. I'm glad I got back into it after so long. I enjoyed the last few seasons more than I expected or remembered (depening on if I saw the episode or not), and even though I still don't think it was as good as the best seasons, it was still good. However, I'm not really that into the new season so far. Hopefully it gets better, or I like it more when I watch them again (like what happened the last few seasons). Anyway, I still say it's the best cartoon that I've ever seen.

Weeds: I need to watch more of this. I did like what I saw of it.

South Park: I watched the earlier seasons back when they were on, and random episodes of the middle seasons, but I didn't see it for a while until I started rewatching it. Now that I'm slowly going through it again, I still like it.

Survivor: Kind of a guilty pleasure for me, which is why I didn't even say anything about previous seasons whenever you posted. :P Still, I like it, and it's the only reality show I watch now.

The Office: Another show I need to catch up on. I thought it was a good show. Maybe a bit overrated by people, but I still like it.

In Treatment: I'm so glad I got caught up with this. I like all the characters on the show. Even the weakest character (Mia) had her moments. I like the unique structure of the show.

Lost:  Best show ever IMO.

Robot Chicken: Another one of those shows where I need to catch up. :P I think it's an interesting idea, and works pretty well, but I think that the randomness sometimes hurts it as much as helps it. And some of the shorter sketches are too short to be funny, while some of the longer ones do end up dragging on, but there are exceptions.

True Blood: I douldn't have it this high up. It's a pretty good show, and I especially enjoy seeing how it deals with vampires. I think that the Marrianne story hurt its overall rank among my favorite shows, though despite that, I'm still interested in seeing how they deal with some of the other non-vampire species in the future.

The No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency: It wasn't what I thought it would be going into it, especially after the opening scenes describing the way she was raised, but I really enjoyed it. The characters were fun to watch, and while some of the investigations weren't as good as others, I do like how they all played out, and enjoyed the human side of the show. I would be interested in seeing more of it, if they do come out with a second season, but even with the short first season, it was still a great show.

Big Love: lol... Still have only seen one episode. XD So, I can't really give an honest impression of the show.

Flight of the Conchords: ... What?! Seriously? You want a third season? After the last episode of season 2, I don't see how they could continue with the show... But, anyway, I did enjoy the show while it lasted (and hopefully they don't hurt it by forcing a third season when the story is done)

Breaking Bad: Honestly, I don't love this as much as you or Lee seem to, but I still enjoyed it a lot. I do think it's starting to drag on, and hope that they end it after 3 seasons before it gets too ridiculous. But at the same time, I am looking forward to seeing where they take it from here.

Dexter: I have always said that Dexter makes this show. He's just such a fascinating character, and one of the best, if not the best of any show I've seen. I love how they evolve his character each season, and how written his commentary on different things are. That being said, I do think that they're starting to get the hang of writing for some of the other characters, most notably with these last few episodes with Deb. I still watch mainly for Dexter, but it's nice to see that they're at least trying to improve some of the weaker parts of previous seasons.

Mad Men: I can kind of appreciate why you would think it's so great, but at the same time, I definitely would not rank this show so high. It's good, and I should continue with seasons 2 and 3, but I just haven't gotten into it nearly as much as you have. And still can't see how it's better than The Wire.
Hurley (listening to a radio transmission): You hear how clear that is? That's gotta be close, right?
Sayid: Radio waves at this frequency bounce off the ionosphere. They can travel thousands of miles. It could be coming from anywhere.
Hurley: Or any time... Just kidding, dude.

Ben: I was told a lot of things, too, that I was chosen, that I was special. I end up with a tumor on my spine and my daughter's blood all over my hands.
Locke: I'm sorry those things happened to you, Ben.
Ben: Those things had to happen to me. That was my destiny. But you'll understand soon enough that there are consequences to being chosen, because destiny, John, is a fickle bitch.

Sayid (about Ben): Forgive me, but the day I start trusting him is the day I would've sold my soul.

Agree, almost everyone in my class talks about it. Meh, way to overrate something.

I haven't been watching much lately. Which are your favorite and least favorite seasons?

How was the new Treehouse of Horror?

Nothing but the rain wrote:In Treatment: I'm so glad I got caught up with this. I like all the characters on the show. Even the weakest character (Mia) had her moments. I like the unique structure of the show.

Actually, I haven't finished the first season yet :P
But I did watch more episodes than I had watched before. Great show, so glad I am not the only one around here who has watched it.

Nothing but the rain wrote:Lost:  Best show ever IMO.

:O :O :O
More than The Wire and BSG? :O :O :O

Same here, I expected it to have more drama. But the humor, and feel-good feeling it has is why I love it so much.
It is such a loveable show, without being dumbed-down.

There are plenty that they could do.

They should be Illegal Immigrants <3
It can't end like that. :(

And then you go and love Lost? :blum:

How exactly is it dragging? How exactly is it getting ridiculous? :O

Well, I think that Rita, Deb, Maria, Doakes, etc were all very well written in the first season.
But then it became the 'Dexter' show and giving the minimal amount of character development to anyone else.
This season is getting a bit better again

Nothing but the rain wrote:Mad Men: I can kind of appreciate why you would think it's so great, but at the same time, I definitely would not rank this show so high. You should and need to watch the rest.
Like, now.

Mad Men is definitely more artsy than The Wire, it is better in that sense for sure.

The Wire however is the best show ever made, in terms of quality and realism. Can't argue with that.

But Mad Men has captured my heart more than any other show perhaps.

I'd say season 8 was the best (though seasons 4-10 or 11 were all classics IMO). Not sure about my least favorite... If this season keeps up the way it has been, it may end up as my least favorite, but then again, I felt the same way for the last few seasons until I started watching them again.

The new Treehouse of Horror was OK. Not the best that they've done. Suffered from some of the problems I've had with this season, but it had its good moments too.

Like I said before, I really need to rewatch The Wire sometime. :( I liked it from the start, but now that I've seen all the seasons, and got a better picture for all the characters, I think I'll like it more than I do right now. Still top 2 or 3 for sure, but until I rewatch it, I doubt it will beat Lost unless if it has a terrible 6th season, but based on season 5, I doubt that will happen. As for BSG, I've already said yes. :P It's still a great series, but after rewatching BSG, and now being in the 3rd season of my Lost rewatch, I'd say Lost is better overall.

It's a great concept for sure, and it's been great so far, but it's just one of those concepts that I feel can only go so far until it runs out of steam before it gets too old. I'd say it started slowing down around 2/3 of the way through the second season, but it still is good. I can see the 3rd season being good as well, but I honestly don't see it being good after that point, unless if they do something different with it. It just seems like 3 seasons is the best length for it before it stops being interesting to me.

Wooo, I'm actually watching like, 7 of them.

Family Guy, The Simpsons, South Park, Robot Chicken, Entourage, True Blood, Flight of the Conchords and as of the 15th of November, No. 1 Ladies' Detective Agency.

Also, I occasionally watch Always Sunny and The Office.

I love Skins, The Office, Lost, Modern Family, Breaking Bad, and Dexter.

And have been watching Family Guy, 30 Rock, The Simpsons, Weeds, Nip/Tuck, True Blood, and Flight Of The Conchords, although I'm behind on most of them (except for Weeds and True Blood).

Great list.

Well, pretty much ones that you have seen plenty of. Like, at least 30-50% of the show's episodes.

Hard not to be caught up with most of these, though. Unless it's Survivor, Nip/Tuck etc.

Re: Top 35 Shows On TV

Postby cory on Tue Nov 10, 2009 9:54 pm

Then...

Damages - Seen season one, will watch season two when the DVD comes out.

Being Human - Seen all but the last two, was stoned out of my mind though so I plan to rewatch it before season two begins.

Family Guy - I still think this show is super lame compared to SP and The Simpsons, and Futurama, but I've seen probably at least 40-50 episodes because my roommate ALWAYS watches it. It's growing on me a little but I'm not sure I'd ever count it as a favorite.

Medium - Love this show, about to start season three.

The Tudors - I've seen season one, a long time ago. It's entertaining but I'm not sure when I'll get around to watching all of it. I'll probably wait until the final season airs and try to watch it all at once.

30 Rock - Love this show, only seen the first two seasons. Because of the nature of the show and since it has so many jokes that reference previous episodes I'd like to start this one over too.

The Simpsons - Not sure how many episodes I've seen, but I'm a fan and I like to watch it.

Weeds - Just finished season two, am about to start season three soon. Probably the best show on Showtime right now.

Nip/Tuck - Also seen the first two seasons, I'll start over from the beginning and watch it all once it's over.

South Park - Seen most of the episodes more than twice. My favorite animated show that's on the air.

Skins - Seen the first two seasons (season one twice) and the first three episodes of season three. Going to restart season three before I finish it.

Survivor - Seen maybe six seasons, this and Big Brother are my favorite reality shows.

The Office - <3

Lost - One of the few shows I've managed to completely keep up with.

True Blood - <3

It's Always Sunny - I've still only seen season one and half of season two but I love it.

Modern Family - The season's best comedy by far.

Big Love - Another show I fell behind with because I have less and less time on my hands, but it's way awesome.

Flight of the Conchords - <3

Dexter - Only seen season one, I've been waiting to watch the rest because my friend Des wants to watch it with me...

Mad Men - A good show. I agree that's artsy but it's FAR from my favorite show. Sometimes it's just a little dull. Artsy does not always equal entertaining, and no one being honest with themselves can deny this show is annoyingly pretentious at times.

A lot of the other ones listed I do plan on watching because they look good. Just a matter of when I'll be able to.

You watched the worst episode of Nip/Tuck. congratulations :P

You watch Survivor? :O
What season?

Party Down is written by the same guy that wrote VM.
Not a VM fan myself, but I love it. almost the entire VM cast has guest starred including Veronica what's her face

You finished the first seasons of Breaking bad and Mad men? <3

Tocantins <3 aka Tocanshit <3
One of my least favorite seasons because of Coachebag aka most pathetic person on Survivor ever.
But it still has some neat moments.

Yeah, Kristen. I knew it was either Kristen or Kirsten Bell. Dunno why I confuse those two =\
She was in the season finale, and the dude that played her dad was nekkid in the pilot.
