I started my rewatch of S5 last night with A Coat of White Primer.

It was such a brilliant episode. My heart broke for poor Brenda. My favourite scene is at the wedding when she is talking to Lisa's ghost. I can totally relate to the way that Brenda is feeling.

Tragic episode for George and Ruth.

Nate's breahdown at the end is so raw and emotional.

I give this episode 4.5 hearts.

It's a great season opener. Perhaps not as good as the first four, but they were hard to beat.

I loved the wedding, poor Bren.

Enjoy, Katth!

I watched Hold My Hand last night. I hadn't seen that ep before.

I felt so sorry for George. It was so tragic when Ruth found the rotting food in his pockets.

I love the spark between Nate and Maggie. She was a character that I really liked.

I really feel for Rico in this ep too. His need to be with someone is so strong and he just seems so sad.

Glad i'm not the only one who didn't hate Maggie. She was a good person, I felt really bad for her in the end.

as for George -- I think that was pretty much the very first episode I liked him in. poor crazy old dude.

People would only hate Maggie if they blamed her for sleeping with Nate, I think.

To me she is such a soft and gentle person.

I found George to be a pain in the ass mostly but this episode made me feel so sorry for him and understand him so much more.

Well, i've read that they hated her because she was boring and ugly blahblah.

That always happens when a new character comes between a popular couple. same thing with Lisa.

agreed again. the flashback in the beginning of the episode was so sad. fucking irresponsible mother.

I watched Time Flies last night. I had seen this episode before and it's a bit of a standout for me.

I love Nate in this episode. His conversation with his father about feeling all alone and trying to make connections is so poignant.

Same with his conversation with Maggie. She can understand him at a time when Brenda is pushing him away.

Poor Billy! He's losing it big time. I like the little bonding moment that he has with George when they are discussing their meds.

That whole bird thing is brilliant. It's such a great metaphor for Nate's character. Nate is always trying to do the right thing but in the end he is forced to do the wrong thing.

Don't you feel a little sorry for him?

He's lost and alone and striving for something that he can't seem to reach.

You hate him for killing the bird? He was pushed into doing it.

That's OK. I love him enough for the both of us.

Watched Eat a Peach through to Ecotone last night.

I love Aunt Sarah. Everyone should have an Aunt Sarah.

Brenda was definitely pushing Nate away. I can see why Maggie is so appealing to him.

David makes the cutest Dad.

Vanessa can be a real bitch.

Like Claire's new boyfriend.

Funny seeing Russell again at the art show.

Hiram is a shit for brains.

Felt so sorry for Brenda when Nate dumps her at the hospital but I can understand why he did. I suppose that's Ecotone??

Wondering about the scene where David is a surfie. What's it all about?

   for poor Nate, dying when he finally finds some peace.

Brenda was pushing Nate away? I disagree.
she did leave him the chance to chose, and he chose.

I also disagree on Vanessa, he cheated on her, you can't expect her to move on with it/ I'm even surprised she didn't fucking take his kids away from him and sue him for money. Fucking Rico X_X

I always liked Russle, but I loved him the most in that episode. poor thang.

Brenda was always questioning everything. You call Nate a whinger but she whinged more than anyone. I love that scene where her co-worker tells her to shut up.

She drove Nate away cos everything was a drama where she was concerned. She wouldn't let him have any peace.

You condemn Nate and Rico for cheating on their wives but in the Season 3 discussion thread you say you like Lisa. Why does she get forgiven? Not only was she cheating on her husband but she was betraying her sister as well.

Rico *did* cheat on Vanessa but he was very sorry. She didn't have to forgive him but she chose to allow him to re-enter her home, her life and her bed. Then she chose to carry on like a total bitch for the next few episodes.

That was my favourite episode with Russell too. I felt so sorry for him when he tried to break the giant lollypop. (I did laugh though.)

Bren did have her flaws, and I don't forgive her for what she did in Season 2.
But we're talking about Season 5, sure it was stressful but she had lost her first child. and Nate was making a big deal out of the second because it might not be a normal baby instead of supporting Brenda when she needed him. He was a terrible husband, to her and Lisa.

about Lisa -- it was never confirmed that they had any kind of sexual relationship. and I don't think they did. I personally believe that what's-his-face was a psycho who fell in love with Lisa and killed her when she didn't return the affection.

and Rico -- he's still a stupid idiot for cheating on his wife with a cheap whore, and denying it. He didn't deserve to be forgiven, but she did. He had nothing to bitch about because it was all his fault.
I am glad she did forgive him in the end, they were a cute couple.

those are my two cents

Nate tried to be a good husband to Lisa but she wasn't the woman that he was supposed to be with. He loved her but I don't think that he was ever in love with her. How can you be a good husband in that situation?

I understand Brenda's stresses and yeah, Nate did carry on like a dick at times but she did too. I thought that she was a total bitch about the baby. She should have had the amnio but she flat refused. It was Nate's child too. He was given no say about what they were going to do.

I think you and I at least agree on David, Claire and Ruth. :)

Please, he didn't even try. He just complained. Once she was out of the picture, he wanted her all of a sudden. but because it was already too late... he whined some more. :iguess:

We'll never gonna agree on their relationship :P
Nate and Brenda was just a failed marriage from the start.

He loved her. He wanted her back because she was his wife and the mother of his child. He didn't want her to be dead.

Also I think that he carried a fair bit of guilt about their relationship which would have made grieving for her really hard.

No we will never agree about Nate and Brenda because you're in the HateNate club and I never will be.

I might change my mind about some other stuff though as I do my rewatch.

I didn't like George as much until I saw Hold my Hand. So I'll probably see other episodes that change my mind about other stuff.

I finished the season and could go straight back and watch it again!

I can't pick a favourite episode.

It's a three way tie between All Alone, Time Flies and Ecotone.

I haven't started yet. I missed my NCIS too much so I'm rewatching some of my fave eps of that at the moment.

I'm going backwards cos I'm most familiar with S1, 2 and 3 and am least familiar with S4 and S5. After S4. I'm starting from the beginning.
